  • Santa Barbara celebrates its rich cultural heritage with events and festivals throughout the year.  Come and enjoy our many parades, parties and cultural events from Summer Solstice Parade to the festive and patriotic 4th of July festival.

  • Golf

  • Santa Barbara county boasts six public 18-hole golf courses, four of which are within a half hour of downtown.  Three of these four boast championship level play.  Sandpiper and Glen Annie, two of the championship courses, are within 2 miles of our home.  There are also excellent 9-hole courses with practice facilities open in the evenings.

  • Shopping

  • Downtown Santa Barbara offers all of the selection and glamour of a world class shopping destination without the crowds of the big-city feel.  Stroll up State Street and browse in dozens of boutiques with wares from the common to the exotic.  Whatever you seek, you will find it.

  • Beaches

  • Santa Barbara is blessed with beautiful beaches - most of which face south rather than west.  Santa Barbara has dozens of beaches with character ranging from star studded to deserted so pack up the bicycles, you are just a short ride or drive to a relaxing day of sand and surf. The beach at the Bacara Resort is only two miles away and is a bit of a locals secret. You will be provided with specific directions to this beautiful beach.

  • Tennis

  • In the park directly across the street are a pair of freshly refinished, almost unused public tennis courts.  Take our house rackets or bring your own.  Enjoy one of our best kept “locals” secrets.

  • Disc (Frisbee) golf

  • Our home is located across the street from one of the premier Disc Golf courses in the nation.  If you are a Disc Golf aficionado, welcome to paradise, if you are a novice, take our house disc bag and enjoy a day of this exciting, growing sport.

  • Evergreen Open Space

  • Santa Barbara is endowed with numerous local parks, creating a sense of community and some wonderful spaces to enjoy sports, play with the kids or just relax in the sun.

  • Across the street from our home is a wonderful park.  In addition to the above, professional quality, public facilities, the park boasts:

  • A playground for the kids complete with a teeter-totter, tire swing, rocking animals on coils and uneven bars.

  • A baseball diamond often frequented by the locals for tee ball or softball practice.

  • A beautiful open field big enough for football, soccer, kite flying or any other outdoor activity.

  • There are two elementary schools within walking distance, providing numerous other child-friendly activities from hopscotch to swing sets and slides.

  • Butterfly Preserve

  • Goleta’s eucalyptus groves are one of the few remaining winter mating grounds for the Western Monarch Butterfly.  The Monarch is the only insect to migrate like a bird, and every winter from November through March the branches of the eucalyptus grove 3 miles from our home are filled with over 50,000 of these beautiful butterflies.  Come, walk carefully, and enjoy one of nature’s true miracles.

  • UCSB

  • Located a quick 7 min drive on surface streets from our home is campus of the University of California at Santa Barbara.  This beautiful campus, perched on a cliff overlooking the Pacific is home to over 22,000 students with majors from Films Studies to Engineering.  UCSB hosts numerous art films, speakers and live theater events.  While you are here, stop in and enjoy some of the west coasts finest productions, or just take a walk around the campus and see what has been called the most beautiful campus on earth.

  • Horseback riding

  • Some of the most spectacular scenery in Santa Barbara, both the back country and the beaches, can be seen on horseback.  Less than 2 miles from the house is the jumping off point for a local horseback tour that will take you by the butterfly grove and down for a romantic or spirited ride on the beach.  Other local ranches will let you explore the local mountains or the scenic Santa Ynez valley on horseback.

  • Long before the movie “Sideways” popularized the Santa Barbara wine country, our local vineyards produced some of the best wines in the United States.  Pack a picnic lunch and follow in Jack and Miles’ footsteps or print the local Vintner’s Association map and explore on your own.

  • Hiking

  • Santa Barbara is full of wonderful hikes from scenic relaxing strolls on the beach to more strenuous mountain climbs.  Hiking destinations include beautiful pools for swimming, local natural hot springs and vista points that will take your breath away.  Explore with our book of local hikes or ask us for a recommendation.

  • Santa Barbara County has some of the best surfing in California.  Our southern facing beaches include Rincon, a world renown surf location and the westward facing Jalama beach, famous for both surfing and windsurfing.  If surfing is your goal, you will find all of the south coast beaches in easy access from our home.

  • Fishing

  • Weather your love is the peace and tranquility of fly fishing in a lake or river or the excitement of deep sea fishing, Santa Barbara has the activity you are looking for.

  • Several deep sea fishing operations run out of the Santa Barbara harbor offering numerous opportunities to go out to our local Channel Islands or to local fishing spots off of the coast. 

  • Additionally our two local lakes, Lake Cachuma and Lake Casitas offer the opportunity for fresh water fishing in some of the best bass lakes in the world.

  • Whale Watching

  • Santa Barbara is in an excellent location for whale watching.  Our city is on a southern facing coast and sheltered behind the Channel Islands.  It offers us a fabulous opportunity to witness the migration of the gray whales, as well as spot other species of the large marine mammals.

  • Over 27 different types of whales and dolphins inhabit the Santa Barbara Channel at various times of the year, making these waters one of the best whale watching areas in the world.

  • There are two windows of opportunity to see whales around Santa Barbara.  During February, March and early April you can see California Grey Whales.  From May to September you can see Blue Whales, Minke Whales and Humpback Whales. 

  • Occasionally, you can see Right Whales or Orcas. All season long you have an excellent chance of seeing dolphins, porpoises, seals and sea lions.
